German Shepherds, My Passion
by Pamela O'Dell

I'm looking out me window, and see my dogs out there.
I reminisce of dogs from past, and dream what the future will bear.
When asked why I do this, its seeded deep with my heart.
The love, the trust and devotion, German Shepherds, I'll never depart.

When big brown eyes are starring, through the pane of my front door.
He just want's to be near me, I could not ask for more.
On the couch  or at my feet, or in the car for a ride.
A walk in the woods or dog show, he's always at my side.

When a family looks at a litter, and may make a choice that day.
Its that instant bond between puppy and child, that takes my puppy away.
Its the young ones that fill my mind with dreams, and sometimes draw a crowd.
But the old ones have fulfilled such dreams, and sincerely make me proud.

A dog is like a young child, in the respect it trusts in you.
Give him love, time and teach him manners, and he’ll do what is asked to do.
For a dog gives what is given, only more without delay.
The puppy, the years, the old dog, and then they're gone too quickly one day.

It does not matter if the dog, is destined to do great things.
Its health and soundness and, the reciprocated love it brings.
When looking at my dogs again, I thank my God above.
So ask my why I do this, those brown eyes caused true love.

Grandma's Puppy
by Pamela O'Dell

The Child found my Puppy, bouncing in grandma's yard.
The Puppy cocked her head, and studied him real hard.
The Puppy approached the Child and gave him a welcome lick.
The Child surveyed the ground, and found a little stick.

He teased the Puppy for awhile, then threw it in the air.
I was running for my camera, the moment, what a pair.
The Puppy jumped from left to right, and then she ran around.
The Puppy was excited, this new friend she had found.

She teased the boy, the boy teased her, they’re having so much fun.
His lunch was gone to quickly, I know what that boy had done.
The puppy pranced beside the Child, a human just her size.
The picture out my window, they both had found a prize.

Then as dusk was nearing, and the Child went to bed.
Yes the Puppy can sleep with you, what else could I have said.
The dreams those two with have this night, the visions don't you see.
But Grandma became the hero, the day that Puppy came home with me.
